Hi. If you have trouble conceiving, I may be of help. Well, you see, a Swedish study have found that many plastic shoes, or should I say, sandals, contains toxic material that affect your health:
In its study titled “Chemicals Up Close“, the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SNCC) found “disturbing concentrations” of harmful chemicals in a variety of plastic-based flip-flops, sandals, clogs, and other shoes.
The SNCC tested 27 shoes sent by partner groups from the Philippines, India, Indonesia, South Africa, Tanzania, Sweden, and Uganda; and found high levels of phthalates in 17 shoes.
Phthalates (pronounced “thalates”) are chemicals used to soften polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic.
The chemicals are widely believed to cause health complications like infertility and testicular problems among men, endocrine disorders, birth problems, and even cancer. (link) (link) (pdf)
I actually found this article from a Philippines news website, that also pointed to some unsafe plastic shoes in the Philippines. besides the other mostly improvished countries mentioned. This is responsible and objective journalism.
Anyway, we have our powerful Environment and Health ministries to keep an vigilant eye on these IMPORTANT issues, like environment and health. I can bet my last dollar that they will do something about it like giving the public more information, for a start, and then maybe a list, telling which product is contains possible harmful substance, in accordance to the free trade agreements.
I never knew that plastic shoes could be family planning tool! I always thought it could be the water supply, food products and maybe improper GMA food. Anyway, most of the plastic sandals are giving the next generation, a flat feet with their flat design. There goes our running ability as well.
Good Grief!
Now, where are my old rubber sandals ?
