I always get the impression why I write in to traffic police or MRT feedback that we are following the gold standard of other countries like Japan, Europe etc.
I have been harping on why the yellow line is so near the edge which do not allow people who might fall onto the track when they lose their balance whether by being dizzy, slippery floors from dripping umbrellas etc, I often get the reply that we are following the “gold standards” of the more developed countries.
However, today I decided to REALLY check and it seemed that in Japan, their Yellow line is further back than ours and could provide some basic buffering for people falling downwards and not in suicide mode of dashing onto the platform.
The recent case of a a 71 years old elderly woman who was killed on 24 Mar 2009 morning, after falling off the Clementi MRT station. (link) which had prompted me to write about having a “Metal Railing at MRT Platform to prevent accidental falling” in my earlier posting.
