My mother-in-law’s eventual above-the-knee amputation in late 2006 started rather innocuously in 2004 when my wife noticed that one of her toe was blackened during a visit to her place. Both thought nothing of it. Neither did I.
That was a few months following the death of her beloved husband from pancreatic cancer and who had all the while taken care of her medical conditions including telling her to what medicine to take and in what quantity etc. I was not aware that she was diabetic until it was too late to save her toe from amputation. She was still staying with her son in her own flat at Geyland Baharu, tendering to their daily needs and looking after her grandson and grand-daughter. We thought nothing of it until a few months later, when we learned that her foot had turn gangrenous and realise the severity of a diabetic foot when we visited her at the TTS hospital. A young doctor, told us a week later that her foot was not responding to antibiotics and required to do a “vascular” to channel blood to her blocked veins in her lower limb. I inquired why wasn’t the stemmed blood flow to her leg in her debilitated state was treated in tandem with the ravaging infusion of antibiotics. He replied curtly that it was done by another dept and I was aghast at that statement.
I went home to do some research on diabetic foot and it seemed that maggot therapy was used crudely back during the Japanese war occupation in Burma when it accidentally grubbed away necrotizing wounds of war prisoners to effect wound healing. I guessed it worked back then when the prisoners’ festering wound were the only food for the flies’ maggots . I thought of trying to grow my own maggots but read that I would have to grow a few generations of flies in sterile environment for it to work. I also read that there were some researches done in other countries with one lab was actually selling maggot bandages. When I told the doctor about it, he replied curtly that it was not the practice here to do “unorthodox” treatment. I tried writing to the various departments in the NUS and other bio-research department in Singapore but none responded.
Eventually when her foot had to be amputated, we requested that the amputation be minimal so that at least she could stand on both feet. The doctor did his best and sliced diagonally leaving only her big toe and half a foot (a typical photo from internet). We then decided to also sought alternative treatment too. Someone introduced “Cellfood” to my wife, and when she told me about it, I was really skeptic about it. First thing I asked if it was a Multi-level Marketing (MLM) product and when she said Yes, the first thing that came to my mind was “bullshit” but since there was nothing really left to try, I relented and said ok.
When the “salesman” came to my place, now that my mother-in-law had move in to stay with us after some cajoling; for us to take care of her rather then she taking care of her son and grandchildren in her shabby flat, I was still rather skeptic but decided to go along with it since everyone was already so downtrodden back then.
But surprisingly, her open foot wound slowly began to heal when droplets of Cellfood (presumably the active ingredient being Deuterium Sulfate and reportedly ability to cause the release of both nascent oxygen (O) and nascent hydrogen (H) from the water molecule (H20) coupled with the colloidal nutrients) . I guess it provided both nutrients and importantly oxygen to promote healing to her diabetic wound.
However, just when her foot was almost healed, I took my wife and kids overseas during the June holiday, and that really saw her conditions deteriorated so rapidly during our two week absence as her guardians decided to try Traditional Chinese Medicine, though with good intention. She was almost on the verge of death and both legs had to be amputated. I am not sure if she drank too much TCM herbal drinks which could be dangerous since diabetics had to restrict their liquid intake to prevent fatal isotonic imbalance too. Nobody was really the wiser back then.
I am glad that the present medical authorities is willing to explore alternative medicines like the current maggot therapy approaches. However, I felt they could go a step further to perhaps, try some products to infuse the badly needed oxygen for any onset of diabetic foot wound and to avoid or prevent the quick cut-and-check out hospital approach that only serve to highlight the success rate of the hospital but not necessary the patients’ healings. I thought the hyperbaric oxygen tank therapy (original developed for military divers usage) was not practical and expensive, needing to go to hospital often like kidney dialysis.
I thought the Cellfood product was quite useful under such necrotizing condition and maybe the medical authorities could look into its usage for diabetic foot wound condition and establish whether it really work when added directly to necrotizing wounds that required constant oxygenation and nutrients reaching it for proper healing.
This is not a marketing writeup and I do not gain anything from it. I just want to share my experience and perhaps while away my time, writing something useful in my blog; about things that I thought could work simply but frown upon by the money-making conglomerates competing to dish out superfluous medicines whether erroneously or intentionally. The consumer, is often, least enlightened. Hope I do not add to the confusion of fumble, fumbling or fumbled bees.
PS: Ya, my mother-in-law is quite happily staying with us now, listening to her favourite Cantonese radio station broadcasting from Malaysia, wobbling her legs up and down as she does her daily exercise. I admire her tenacity. I think patients heal faster besides medicine if someone cares. Do you?
Cheers
Mikey
Hi Miss Goh, sad to say, my mother-in-law passed away in Sep 08 due to eventual kidney renal failure from her deteriorating diabetic condition. She did not go for dialysis treatment due to her prevailing conditions then.
Anyway, Cellfood appear to be selling quite well in your country, Malaysia, as a MLM product and my wife also qot here source from there too. I also also saw it be sold at some promotional stalls in various housing estates few years back like Tampines etc.
I would also recommend that Cellfood for difficult wound healing especially when blood supply would be difficult to reach certain out out areas like the foot. However, I must caution that like any supplements there would be side-effect basing on its chemical reactions with other medications, like Blood Pressure pills etc. Hence I cannot conclusively say that it would be a panacea (cure all) solution. The resultant oxygen and hydrogen from the splitting of water molecule from the heavy water content, Deutrosulfazyme would definitely interfere with the various enzymatic processes in our body. Presently my wife is taking a few drops everyday but not my kids since they are growing and I do not want them to be reliant on any supplement especially at their growing stage. For adults, it would generally be ok given our deteriorating conditions as we age.
My wife says the cost per bottle is about S$100 while in package of five bottles, S$400.
I stop taking Cellfood for some weeks as I was trying to take very little supplement to find out which one is affecting my nerve conditions. But I did find Cellfood to be quite good in recovering from muscle fatigue after a run sometime back. However, I just took a two drops with water (as I write) to see if it had any effect on my knee (I undergone knee arthroscopy surgery 10 days ago for a meniscus tear) and which was very well done.
Anyway, here are some sites of some testimonials but do take it with a pinch of salt, as some are part of the MLM marketing.

If your mum’s foot has too many necrotizing (rotting or dead) tissues then perhaps you should quickly send her to Tan Tock Seng Hospital that is now trying out the Maggot Therapy to remove decaying tissues so that healings could take place. You may want to read this article from the Straits Times.

She need to move her leg to facilitate blood movement to remove toxin from the bacteria infestation.
Take Care!
